Everything has been filmed for Episode 2 of our new show, The Geek and The Gourmet. I'm excited to get this Holiday special done and in time for actual holiday viewing! Our show is aired on Tuesdays 12:30pm and Thursdays 9:30pm on MCTV Channel 3 and within the next two days  you'll be able to watch it here and on TheGeekandTheGourmet.com website. Thanks for your support, advice and feedback! We appreciate it and look forward to coming up with a lot of fun ideas for the show. If you'd like to be a part of it, send us an email, we're always looking for people to interview on the show.

Roasted Chestnuts

Today when I stopped in to Eastman Party Store in Midland I found a farm couple roasting up chestnuts for customers to try. They were a nice treat on a cold day. They get a lot of people who say they've never tried roasted chestnuts so I think it's great they're bringing back a tradition. They will be at the Holiday Art Fair at Midland Center for the Arts next weekend so make sure you get out there to sample some!

Here's what they look like when they fall off the tree.

Will Work For Food

Aleats2

We were at Lumber Barons' Grill (aka Dore Riverview Complex) today for a food photo shoot and Al helped take care of the leftovers. His favorite job, lol. Chef Mike Scheskey shared some of the dishes you can expect when dining in this beautiful Bay City dining establishment. I had a German Wheat beer (brewed on the premises) along with tasting some tender, luscious calamari, brick oven veggie pizza, homemade chicken and dumplings, a chicken roulade and surf and turf that was perfectly cooked. The shrimp were seasoned well with garlic (we love garlic) and everything was cooked skillfully. Everything is made in house and served with a smile. If you haven't been there in a while, you need to stop in and try some of Chef Scheskey's specialties. The website is http://www.doreriverview.com

Interview with Food Network Challenge Champion Douglas St. Souver

Douglas St. Souver has just recently entered into the culinary world. He's an inspiring person who we're happy to know and learn from. He's the type of person who is enthusiastic about what he does and it shows, he makes things happen for himself and others. Before he even graduated from culinary school he was featured on The Food Network in the Fantasy Fruit Sculpture contest and he won! Check out the interview and also, if you're interested in his carving work, visit out his website,  ArtisansInCulinary.com .

Doug is a fun instructor and demonstrator so check out his event listings as well for upcoming live events where you can meet him. If you can't make one of those, contact him about his instructional cds and special carving tools so you can start adding some interesting flair to your dinner table for the holidays! It would be a fun story to share with the fam when you're sitting down to Christmas meal and they notice your new skills. :)
